There is a version of David Kitzmiller that the singer/songwriter series does not fully contain. Burnt Songs from the Toaster is where that version lives.
These are the songs from the years between Kinda Suicidal and Nameless Cowfish, the real bands of his youth, channeled through the sonic vocabulary of early Metallica, Ministry, and Nine Inch Nails. The anger here is not manufactured. It is the specific anger of a seventeen-year-old with a guitar and a lot of unprocessed damage, given a studio decades later and told to go.
Heavy metal, thrash, and industrial throughout, with moments that drop to near-silence before the next track arrives. The James Fields Band provides the architecture for eleven songs that move from confrontational to brutal to, in the final track, unexpectedly tender.
Several tracks feature Some Guy Named Tim and Some Guy Named Tim's Wife alongside The James Fields Band, the same collaborators who appear on Recorded Songs, brought here into entirely different sonic territory.
Serpentine — Written in the Kinda Suicidal years. The song that opens the album is also the one that begins the story of where all of these songs came from.
Broken — Written into part of the Nameless Cowfish storyline. Readers of the novel will recognize the emotional territory immediately.
Forgiveness is a Full-Time Job
Eternal Internal Struggle
Playing with My Heart
Blood Pours Down on Me
Losing It
Killing
Anarchy is Reality
Assault with Intent to Kill
A Graphic Moment (feat. Some Guy Named Tim)
A video for Serpentine is available on the David Kitzmiller YouTube channel.
Serpentine traces back to the Kinda Suicidal years that appear in Born with a Toaster in the Bathroom. Broken is written into the Nameless Cowfish storyline, the same band and the same years that the novel follows. Most of this album lives in the years between those two stories, the gap that the memoir does not fully name.
Vinyl projected August 1, 2026.
Burnt Songs from the Toaster is an ongoing series. New volumes will be released through Ace of Toaster Records as they are completed.
Serpentine connects to Born with a Toaster in the Bathroom. Broken connects to Nameless Cowfish: The Years Between The Stations. For the quieter, more acoustic side of the catalog, Recorded Songs from the Toaster Vol. 1 is the natural companion.
